A 23-year-old man from Lewisporte was killed in a single vehicle collision early Friday morning.

Lewisporte RCMP said that the man died when the pickup truck he was driving left the road while trying to make a turn on the Road to the Isles in Loon Bay.

The truck vaulted over a ditch and struck a utility pole before landing on the front lawn of a home.

The man was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was ejected from the truck. He was the lone occupant of the vehicle.

Excessive speed appears to be a factor in the collision.

An investigation in to the incident is still ongoing.
