Legal aid review changing hands
A review of legal aid services in Newfoundland and Labrador will be changing hands.
Department of Justice officials announced on Friday that longtime lawyer John Roil will take over the review.
The work was originally being done by retired provincial court judge John Rorke, who has withdrawn from the task due to personal reasons.
Roil was senior legal counsel for the Offshore Helicopter Safety Inquiry in 2009.
The legal aid review was announced in mid-June, following the reversal of cuts to the agency.
Areas to be reviewed include staff workload, challenges to the delivery of service, and the use of private counsel.
