Knife assault alleged in charges against Mountie
An RCMP officer charged with nine counts of assault is accused of having used a knife during one of them, court records show.
Cpl. Steve Blackmore, a resident of Gander who works in the RCMP's detachment in nearby Carmanville, has been suspended while the case moves through the courts.
Blackmore was first charged with assault last week, following an incident that happened early on Saturday, May 26.
By last Friday, police had laid a series of other charges related to assaults against different women that had occurred in different communities.
Police allege that one of the women was assaulted six times since 2005, including once with a knife, in George's Brook, Carbonear, Garnish and Gander.
The third complainant was assaulted at some point between 1996 and 1998 in St. John's, and again in Wesleyville in 2001, court records allege.
RCMP are not commenting on the charges.
Blackmore is scheduled to appear June 21 in provincial court in Clarenville where the charges were sworn on Friday.
