Kippens man hits stump, thrown from snowmobile
A 45-year-old man from Kippens escaped with non-life threatening injuries, following a snowmobile accident on the island's west coast Saturday.
The RCMP said the man was injured when his machine hit a stump that was buried in the snow.
The impact threw the man from the snowmobile.
The incident occurred about 15 kilometres from the Cold Brook Trails parking lot
An off-duty RCMP officer and an off-duty nurse happened upon the injured man and provided first aid.
The Stephenville Ground Search and Rescue team transported paramedics to the scene, and a helicopter from Pasadena was requested by health officials.
The victim was transported to Western Memorial Hospital in Corner Brook for treatment.
Police said alcohol is not believed to have been a factor in the accident.
