The Eastern School District is changing the way parents will register their children for kindergarten.
Instead of lining up at schools, parents will now have to register their kids for the fall of 2014 online on a computer or a mobile device.
Tony Stack, the district's assistant director of education, said the new process will eliminate long lineups at schools and facilitate enrolment in programs like French immersion.
"[It's] much more preferable than a lineup process, and it provides flexibility to parents in a modern age," he said.
"The registration process can be on any kind of a device that has internet access … So, there'll be no lineups."
Stack said the process will be easier for everyone — even for those who aren't online.
"If somebody doesn't have internet access, we're encouraging them to make contact with the school, to do so by May 27... and indicate to the school they'd like to have some assistance with internet access. We're asking our schools to facilitate that," he said.
Online registration for 2014 enrolment will take place from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on May 29 and 30, 2013.
