Police are looking for Jason English and issued an arrest warrant Friday.
The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary says English is now required to serve the remainder of a sentence for an aggravated assault that took place in 2010.
The warant was issued just after the St. John's man failed to appear in court.
A judge was set to decide the fate of English's pit bull, which attacked and killed another dog last year.
The Crown had asked that the dog be put down as part of its owner's sentence.
Defence and prosecuting attorneys were in court, set to argue for and against having the dog euthanized, but English never showed up.
English's lawyer told the judge he hasn't been able to contact his client for some time.
The court decision on the fate of the dog has been put off for another month.
English is 6'3" with a large build, weighs 250 pounds and has brown hair and brown eyes.
