Impaired drivers in metro area keep RNC busy
The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary were busy dealing with impaired drivers Saturday night in the Mount Pearl and Paradise areas.
Police received a report of an erratic driver in the Merchant Drive area of Mount Pearl.
The RNC located the vehicle, and the male driver, 41, was arrested for impaired driving and failing the breathalyzer.
After further investigation, police also charged the man for failing to remain at the scene of an accident.
He is also facing additional charges under the Highway Traffic Act.
The man was released to appear in court at a later date, while his vehicle was impounded.
Meanwhile, police responded to a citizen complaint of a possible impaired driver on the road in the Paradise area.
The RNC arrested a male driver, 51, at a nearby gas bar.
Police said he is facing charges of impaired driving, failing the breathalyzer and driving while disqualified.
He was held in custody overnight for a court appearance Sunday morning.
