A man spent the night in jail after he ran away from police officers who were trying to catch him for impaired driving.
The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary said they were called to the Ruby Line area in the Goulds around 1:45 p.m. on Sunday, after receiving a public report of an impaired driver.
Soon after, officers spotted the man, but he got out of his car and ran into the woods.
Once he was apprehended, the man, 43, was charged with impaired driving, refusing the breathalyzer, breach of court orders, driving while prohibited, operating a vehicle without a valid insurance policy, operating an unregistered vehicle, and operating without a valid driver's license.
The man also owed $4,200 in outstanding fines.
His vehicle was impounded, and he spent the night at the lock-up before a court appearance that was scheduled for Monday morning.
