Illegal driver in stolen car nabbed after running red light
A driver whose licence had already been suspended — and who was behind the wheel of a stolen car — picked the wrong intersection to run a red light Thursday night.
The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary said an officer was paused at an intersection on Prince Philip Drive around 10:30 p.m. when a car zoomed through it.
The officer, who was responding to another call, changed priorities and pursued the car.
The chase ended nearby on Freshwater Road. The driver got out of the car and ran away, but a police dog team tracked him down.
The vehicle turned out to be stolen, and the driver, 25, was found to have a list of outstanding issues with the law.
The driver's licence had been suspended. As well, he already owes more than $30,000 in fines.
New charges against him include dangerous driving and possession of break-and-entry tools.
