The St. John's IceCaps surrendered three first period goals and were unable to complete the comeback, losing 3-2 to the Providence Bruins on Friday night at the Dunkin' Donuts Center in Providence, RI.
Carl Klingberg and John Albert scored for St. John's, while Will O'Neill picked up two assists. Michael Hutchinson stopped 22 shots in the loss.
The IceCaps outshot the Bruins 12-6 in the third, but were unable to solve Niklas Svedberg, who finished the game with 26 saves for the victory.
With the loss, Providence jumped ahead of St. John's for second place in the Atlantic Division.
The IceCaps head to Manchester for an afternoon game on Sunday.
