IceCaps narrowly miss home-opener win

The St. John's IceCaps lost their home opener last night at Mile One Centre, but came close to making a winning comeback.

Providence Bruins beat the IceCaps 4-3

The St. John's IceCaps lost their home opener last night at Mile One Centre, but came close to making a winning comeback.

Down 3-1 late in the third period, J.C. Lipon and Eric O'Dell scored two quick goals to force overtime. However, the home team fell 4-3 in the extra frame to the visiting Providence Bruins.

Lipon scored this first professional goal, while O'Dell led the IceCaps with six shots on goal.

Bruins goalie NiklasSvedberg was the story of the game, turning aside 40 St. John's shots.

The two teams will face off again on Saturday night at Mile One Centre.
