IceCaps named team of the year by AHL
The American Hockey League have announced that the St. John's IceCaps have won the President's Award for overall organization excellence.
The IceCaps also picked up the Eastern Conference Community Relations and Fan Experience awards during the AHL Board of Governors' Annual Meeting at Hilton Head Island, S.C.
In claiming the President's Award, the IceCaps were recognized for selling out every game at Mile One Centre for the third consecutive season, as well as for their ongoing leadership in overall business success in 2013-14.
The IceCaps were also applauded for hosting the 2014 AHL All-Star Classic, while reaching their first Calder Cup finals. Additionally, the IceCaps developed nine players who advanced to the National Hockey League with the parent Winnipeg Jets.
"The IceCaps organization is honoured and humbled to be named the top organization in the American Hockey League," said Danny Williams, president and CEO of the IceCaps.
"We are proud that our commitment to excellence in community relationships, corporate partnerships and overall fan experience continues to receive accolades from the league. These accomplishments further enhance the reputation we worked hard to build as a professional hockey community."
