IceCaps beat Bulldogs 3-1, move on to playoffs
Goalie Tyler Beskorowany is making the most of his opportunities with the St. John's IceCaps.
Beskorowany had a 35-save performance in St. John's 3-1 win at Mile One Centre over the Hamilton Bulldogs on Tuesday night in American Hockey League action.
Since jumping into net for the IceCaps in late February, Beskorowany has posted a .933 save percentage and a 2.15 goals-against average in 10 games.
"He's been given the ball and he's been able to run with it," said St. John's head coach Keith McCambridge. "He's giving us a chance to win games when he's in the net. It's good for him that he's making the most of the opportunity."
Beskorowany's shutout bid was ruined with 3:13 left in the game.
"I was very disheartened," said McCambridge. "It's happened twice now to him where he has a chance to get a shutout under his belt with us and it slipped out of his grasp.
"Unfortunate that we weren't able to hold on to that for him."
Patrice Cormier, John Albert and Will O'Neill scored for the IceCaps (43-22-6).
Connor Crisp answered for the Bulldogs (31-34-7), while Devan Dubnyk stopped 36 shots.
Crisp's goal was his first as a professional. Tuesday's game was his fourth game with Hamilton after completing his playoffs in the Ontario Hockey League with the Sudbury Wolves.
"It was pretty nice," Crisp said. "Obviously it's always nice to get a goal and your first goal at a pro level is always special. It would have made it sweeter with a win, but we will be back tomorrow."
Nine seconds into the third period, Cormier scored the first goal of the game for the IceCaps. A large rebound bounced into the slot and Cormier found it before scoring a wrist shot into the open net.
Albert doubled the IceCaps lead after Samson stripped a defender and made a drop pass to him. Albert drove home a heavy slapshot from the slot 12:10 into the third period.
O'Neill put the game out of reach with a slapshot from the point, through a screen at the 16:01 mark of the third.
Hamilton got on the board at 16:47 in the third period, as Crisp drove the net and scored, ruining a potential shutout.
