St. John's woman charged with defrauding housing co-op

A former president of a housing co-op in St. John's has been charged with defrauding the organization, CBC News has learned.

A former president of a housing co-op in St. John's has been charged with defrauding the organization, CBC News has learned.

Brenda Dawson was the president of the Cumberland Housing Co-op until a couple of years ago.

The co-op was a non-profit organization that had 33 units on Cumberland Crescent.

Documents filed with the court say that Dawson is charged with fraud over $5,000.

CBC was told the fraud was around $80,000.

Dawson is also charged with a breach of trust.

The two charges cover a four-year period, beginning in August 2010.
