A man was taken into custody on Monday night after an employee of a hotel in downtown St. John's was assaulted.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary was called to a hotel in the Duckworth Street area around 8 p.m. The police would not say which hotel.

A man, 35, was held overnight for a court appearance on Tuesday, on charges that include assault causing bodily harm, uttering threats and breaching the terms of his probation.

The RNC said the employee was not seriously injured in the incident.
