A woman in the coastal Labrador town of Hopedale has been charged in connection with a house fire earlier this week.

Police and the volunteer fire department were called to a house fire on Carpenters Loop on Tuesday evening.

Firefighters put out the blaze before RCMP arrived on the scene, with damage mostly caused by smoke and soot.

A woman, 52, was taken into custody on an arson charge. She was later released on an order to appear in court on June 4.

RCMP said officers believe alcohol is connected to the case.
