A man who has hepatitis C is being charged for spitting on police officers in St. John's.
The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary said it was called around 6:30 p.m. on Sunday to deal with a disturbance in the Goulds neighbourhood of the city.
The RNC said a man, 32, kept spitting on the officers until they put a special hood over his head.
Police had had him on record as having the contagious disease.
The man, who was held in the lockup overnight, faces charges of assaulting two officers, assault causing bodily harm, uttering threats and resisting arrest.
