An unoccupied home in St. John's sustained significant damage from a fire on Saturday night.

Crews from the St. John's Regional Fire Department were called to the house on Glenview Terrace at 9:26 p.m.

A neighbour had reported seeing smoke and flames coming from the two-apartment structure.

When firefighters arrived at the scene, the house was fully engulfed.

Officials believe the blaze started in the basement.

The exact cause of the fire is not known, and has been handed to the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary for further investigation.
