The remains of Irene Barnes, 50, and her son Michael Power, 11, were found in a burnt-out cabin near Wiltondale in early August.

RCMP Sgt. Marc Coulombe said examiners have not been able to determine the cause of death nor the cause of the fire. However, Coulombe said the case is not closed.

"Because it's undetermined we'll never rule it out as non-criminal until we can positively rule it out as non-criminal. Our investigators are still speaking to people and they're more than willing to speak to people who may have information," Coulombe said.

"We want to make sure that the public understands that there's no fear for the general public in this matter and our investigation is continuing."
