A Scouts Canada camp outside St. John's has been vandalized for the second time in as many years, with leaders denouncing the crime as a setback to efforts to improve the facility.

Camp Morristown outside the Foxtrap area of Conception Bay South was attacked by someone who smashed out all of the windows, destroyed furniture and burned a hole into the floor.

"Now we are in a situation where we have experienced more damage again that's going to cost a lot of time and money to repair," said Steve Kent, the commissioner of Scouts Canada.

"It's frustrating. I think the volunteers involved really feel angry ... [It is] just reckless, pointless destruction."

Scouts Canada operates several camps in eastern Newfoundland, often among other cabins off remote roads.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary gathered evidence at the scene Wednesday.

Scouts Canada is looking at ways to increase security at the camp.
