Former Kennedy aide gets PC nod for byelection
Nominations for a Progressive Conservative candidate in the Carbonear-Harbour Grace byelection closed on Thursday.
Jack Harrington, a former assistant to Jerome Kennedy, was announced as the Tory candidate after nominations closed at noon.
Former Harbour Grace mayor Don Coombs had announced his intention to seek the Liberal nomination for the byelection, but pulled his name out on Wednesday.
Coombs decided to back Sam Slade, who was just re-elected as mayor of Carbonear.
Slade will be up against Olympic gold medal winner Jamie Korab for the Liberal nod.
Premier Kathy Dunderdale said the byelection will be called after the Liberal party chooses its new leader in early November.
