Forest fire contained in western Labrador
A forest fire near the communities of Wabush and Labrador City was contained Sunday morning, according to the province's Department of Natural Resources.
Provincial Forest Fire Duty Officer Dan Myles said a water bomber was dispatched to the Smoky Mountain area on Saturday afternoon to respond to reports of a blaze.
A helicopter from Happy Valley-Goose Bay was also sent to help contain the fire, and ground crews were on scene through the evening.
As of Sunday morning, the water bomber was put on standby as the fire was contained.
A helicopter and a crew of four remain at the scene to monitor hot spots.
Roughly two hectares of forest appears to be affected.
A fire ban was issued Friday night in Labrador City due to very hot weather and dry conditions.
