One of the cars involved in a collision on the doorstep of a St. John's funeral home had evaded the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary only minutes before.
Two cars collided on Hamilton Avenue, just outside Barrett's Funeral Home.
The driver of one of the vehicles had evaded the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary, which had tried to pull over the vehicle on Blackmarsh Road for a traffic violation. Instead of stopping, the driver hit the gas.
Police did not pursue the vehicle further for safety reasons.
But the vehicle, a blue Mazda Protege, wound up crashing into a black SUV on Hamilton.
The driver, 31, was arrested and is in custody, said CBC News reporter Zach Goudie. Police later identified the man behind the wheel as being prohibited from driving.
A woman, 19, who had been a passenger in that vehicle was taken to hospital for treatment. It's believed that her condition is not critical.
No one in the other vehicle was injured.
The RNC said anyone who saw the blue Protege in the moments before the collision to contact the force.
