A crew member on a fishing vessel was injured early Sunday in Placentia, when it collided with a support structure being used to build a new lift bridge.

The Suzanne Mary, which fishes out of Placentia, collided with the structure around 3:30 a.m., RCMP said.

The man was sent to hospital for treatment for undetermined injuries. Police said his life is not at risk.

The vessel, though, sustained what police called "serious damage."

There was no word on whether the collision will have an impact on the bridge construction.
