Fire extensively damaged a home on Critch's Path in St. John's on Saturday evening.

The fire was reported to the St. John's Regional Fire Department shortly after 5 p.m.

Volunteers with the Canadian Red Cross have assisted the homeowners, a man and woman and their two pet cats, with emergency lodging and purchases of clothing and food.

Additional aid may be provided once the homeowners have more time to assess the damage and determine other emergency needs.

Fire crews said the blaze was quickly contained, but there was extensive smoke and water damage throughout the home.

There were no injuries, and the matter is under investigation.
