The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary is investigating a fire that destroyed a home on Schreyer Crescent in Mount Pearl on Tuesday.
The fire gutted one side of a duplex. The other side sustained mostly water damage.
According to police, one person in the home at the time of the fire managed to escape without injury.
Two dogs, however, died in the blaze.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The family living on the lesser damaged side of the duplex managed to get some of their belongings out.
Terri Stacey told CBC News the inside of her home was a "mess," with significant water damage.
Stacey says she and her husband plan to spend at least one night camping in their trailer at Pippy Park.
