A cabin in Gallants on Newfoundland's west coast burned to the ground early Thursday morning.

The fire was reported to police just before 3 a.m.

Fire departments from Stephenville and Corner Brook responded. However, when crews arrived on scene, the structure was already destroyed.

Gallants does not have its own fire department.

The RCMP said nobody was in the cabin at the time. The owner had been doing renovations, and was spending the night in another cabin, police said.

The man's truck, which was parked next to the cabin, was also extensively damaged.

A fire investigator will be attending the scene on Thursday for further examination.
