Fire bans lifted following rainfall
Improved weather conditions has prompted some cities and towns across Newfoundland to lift their ban on outdoor fires.
People in Conception Bay South, Gander and Bay Roberts can once again enjoy open fires, since weather has cooled and rainfall has dampened forested areas.
The City of St. John’s has lifted its ban on residential fire pits, fire bowls and chiminea-style devices, as well as residential fireworks; while Mount Pearl is allowing outdoor fires in enclosed fireplaces or pits.
In July, the Department of Natural Resources instated a fire ban across the island due to dry weather conditions and a lack of rainfall.
The communities ask residents to continue to use precautions and monitor fires closely.
