An excavator was needed Tuesday night to put out hot spots at a fire that destroyed a home in the Butlerville area of Bay Roberts.

The fire was well underway when crews with the local fire department arrived on the scene before 8 p.m.

Flames were shooting out of the two-storey house, with smoke filling the sky above.

No injuries were reported in the fire, which drew dozens of spectators.

The main road in the area was temporarily shut down while crews brought the fire under control.
