Facebook pet seller Rian Hicks misses court appearance
Judge notes procedural issues in case; new date to be set
A man living in Montreal who has sold pets to people in Newfoundland over Facebook didn't make his scheduled court appearance on Tuesday.
Rian Hicks, 32, who's originally from Bonavista, was due to appear in provincial court in St. John's.
He's been charged with one count of fraud under $5,000. It's alleged that he defrauded a woman in St. John's of "monies and/or goods" below that value last May.
The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary previously confirmed to CBC Investigates that the charge was filed "in relation to a dog."
Neither Hicks nor a lawyer were present in court Tuesday.
Judge Colin Flynn noted there were procedural issues with how Hicks was served his summons in Montreal.
Hicks will be re-summoned to appear in court at a later date. That date has yet to be set.
