Extensive ground search following report of flare
The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary still has no idea as to what was spotted in the sky near Labrador City on Thursday morning.
Insp. Paula Walsh said there was a report of a white flare coming down from the sky at about 7:30 a.m.
Walsh said the report prompted an extensive ground search, but nothing turned up.
"There's always the possibility that it may have been solar activity, how do we know? So therefore, we can't speculate to what the real reason was, but we certainly will treat these reports seriously to ensure everybody is safe," Walsh said.
Meanwhile, there was another flare spotted on Thursday night, this time near Witless Bay.
The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre in Halifax sent a Cormorant helicopter and a coast guard ship to search the area, but nothing was found.
