A former deputy mayor of St. John's wants his old job back.

On Wednesday, businessman Ron Ellsworth formally announced his intention to run in this September's municipal election before a packed room of supporters at Pippy Park Golf Course.

Ellsworth said his business background and previous council experience will help him to guide the city through challenges ahead.

"We have grown to amazing heights and our continued growth and success will depend on the quality of leadership at city hall," said Ellsworth.

"I would like to help lead St. John's on a continuing path of vision, growth and positive change."

Ellsworth took at shot at the mayor's seat in the 2009 election, but lost to incumbent Dennis O'Keefe.
