Newfoundland and Labrador's first female premier will be sworn in Friday.

Kathy Dunderdale will replace Danny Williams as the 10th premier of Newfoundland and Labrador at 11 a.m. Dec. 3.

Williams announced last Thursday that he is leaving politics and that Dunderdale will replace him at least until the next provincial election.

The provincial Progressive Conservative Party is expected to hold a leadership convention next spring.

The next provincial election is scheduled for Oct. 11, 2011.
