A crash between a dump truck and a sedan closed a section of the main road in the Seal Cove area of Conception Bay South on Thursday, just as rush hour was kicking in.

The accident happened in the area of Indian Pond Road and the C.B.S. Highway, and caused a backlog of traffic.

Fire Chief Todd Brophy said the road was closed in both directions as emergency crews responded.

Members of the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary directed motorists to use an alternate route. Eventually the area was opened to one lane of traffic, before being all cleared about four hours later.

Both the driver of the dump truck and the sedan were taken to hospital. Police said their lives were not at risk.
