Former Newfoundland and Labrador MHA Danny Dumaresque is considering a bid for the provincial Liberal nomination in the Lake Melville district of Labrador.

The district is currently represented by MHA John Hickey.

Dumaresque said he wouldn't seek the nomination until he hears from people in the district. He plans to send constituents a letter outlining his platform. The letter criticizes the proposed Muskrat Falls hydroelectric deal.

Dumaresque said he would never support a deal that would send power to the island of Newfoundland and he warned it would mean higher electricity rates.

Dumaresque represented the southern Labrador district of Eagle River, now known as Cartwright-L'Anse au Clair, from 1989 to 1996. He ran unsuccessfully in the last provincial election in the Torngat Mountains district.
