Police pulled over a vehicle for drunk driving early Friday morning in Mount Pearl, but the trouble didn't stop at the driver's wheel, with the passenger winding up in a jail cell.
The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary said the force received a tip a few minutes after midnight about an impaired driver in the Smallwood Drive area.
Police tracked down the car, and charged the 60-year-old man with impaired driving as well as operating a vehicle while being over the legal limit. In addition to waiting for a future court appearance, his licence was suspended for seven days.
But the RNC had trouble with the passenger. Police said the passenger, who was not described, was arrested for obstructing a police officer, and was held in the lockup overnight.
