A 69-year-old man is dead after what appears to be a drowning near Clarenville.

The RCMP and a local search and rescue group were called Tuesday morning after an overturned boat was spotted.

The man was found dead in the water. He was not wearing a personal flotation device.

The medical examiner will conduct an autopsy.

The death follows the drowning of a 51-year-old man who died on Saturday while fishing in the recreational cod fishery off Bonavista.

He also was not wearing a life jacket.
