A man owing a hefty load of unpaid traffic fines had his vehicle impounded on Thursday afternoon, after the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary stopped him in Mount Pearl.

Police said the man owed more than $25,000 in outstanding fines.

RNC officers pulled over the man, 32, and charged him for operating a vehicle without a valid driver's licence or insurance.

The driver was also arrested on one count of breaching a court order.

He was detained overnight at the lockup and was scheduled for a court appearance on Friday morning.
