A driver was stopped leaving the parking lot of police headquarters in Corner Brook and charged with impaired driving Monday night.

According to Royal Newfoundland Constabulary Const. Scott Mosher, the 55-year-old man was picking something up from the Corner Brook detention centre, which is located in the same building as police headquarters.

A member of the public tipped off police that the man may be impaired.

An RNC patrol pulled the driver over as he was leaving the parking lot.

The man now faces charges of impaired driving and operating a motor vehicle with over 80 milligrams of alcohol per 100 milliliters of blood.

The incident occurred just past 9 p.m. Monday.
