Dog cruelty case leads to conviction
Chris Whelan of Lakeview has been convicted of animal cruelty for willfully failing to provide for the adequate care of his dog, Lady.
The dog, a Rottweiler mix, was seized from Whelan's property last August.
In court, witnesses testified that the dog was so thin and emaciated that her ribs and spine were visible beneath her skin. A veterinarian testified that the dog was 15 to 20 pounds underweight.
Whelan could face a fine or jail time, and the possibility of being prohibited from owning pets.
Whelan's sentencing hearing has been scheduled for July 19.
