Police in St. John's have arrested another driver with a large number of outstanding traffic fines.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary said the 30-year-old man owes more than $30,000.

When the RNC tried to stop the man in the area of James Place on Wednesday, he got out of the vehicle and fled on foot.

Officers apprehended the driver shortly afterward and charged him with a number of offences — obstructing police, no valid insurance and registration, and driving with a suspended licence.

The accused was taken to the lockup for a provincial court appearance, and the vehicle was impounded.
