RCMP say alcohol is believed to have been a factor in the drowning of a 32-year-old man from Nain late Wednesday.

There were no life jackets either on the boat that was involved in the incident, according to police who released additional details Thursday afternoon.

RCMP said a group left the old dock at Daniel Rattle on the shores of Natuashish to return to Nain when a man ended up in the water.

Another passenger was able to pull the man out, but police said attempts to save him were unsuccessful.

RCMP are still investigating.
