Darin King refuses to overturn Holy Cross closure decision
Education Minister Darin King says he will not second-guess a school board decision that will see the closure of Holy Cross Elementary in the centre of St. John's.
"Students are to be moved from their school of 130 students to a school of over 500 with room to expand to 700 students," Rogers said.
"I ask the minister: Will he reconsider the closure of this fantastic community school?"
King said he recognized "the tremendous emotion and strain that goes with any discussions around school closures," but added the issue is beyond his scope.
"I didn't consider any issue in the first place around the closure; it was the school board. So there is no issue for me to reconsider," King said.
Asked by Rogers if he would agree to meet with Holy Cross parents, King said he had "no issue whatsoever in making myself available to hear what they have to say."
