Former premier Danny Williams has been made a special advisor to a mining company developing an iron ore project near Western Labrador and Fermont, Quebec.

Alderon Iron Ore Corporation hopes to create 268 jobs at a mine.

In a news release, Williams said he believes the mining company will be an important contributor to the province's economy.

In the same release, Alderon said Williams will be a resource who will help strengthen its reputation.

Williams has stayed in the spotlight since leaving politics.

He brought professional hockey back to St. John's and he's also behind a proposal that would result in one of the largest housing developments St. John's has ever seen.
