A veteran Tory activist has taken the Progressive Conservative nomination in a St. John's district.
Dan Crummell, who worked in sales for Molson Canada for 25 years, receiving 434 notes in a party nomination meeting Tuesday night in St. John's West.
Challenger Glenn Moores placed second with 216 votes.
Crummell aims to succeed PC Sheila Osborne as the MHA for St. John's West after the Oct. 11 general election. Osborne has held the district since winning a byelection in 1997.
Crummell, a former president of the student union at Memorial University, has made a bid for the house of assembly in the past. In 1996, he lost to Liberal Sandra Kelly in Gander.
