Police in St. John's issued an appeal on Tuesday for witnesses to a suspicious shooting in a city neighbourhood this weekend.

Gunshots were fired around 2 a.m. Saturday in the area of Craigmillar Avenue and 18th Street.

A vehicle was damaged during the incident, reportedly in its windshield.

No one was hurt during the incident, the latest suspicious case to involve gunplay within the city limits. Some in the neighbourhood had assumed the noises were simply firecrackers being set off.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary asked anyone who might have information to step up to help police find a suspect.

"Investigators with the major crime unit would like to speak with anyone who may have witnessed the incident," the RNC said in a statement.

Reports can be filed directly to the RNC or the anonymous Crime Stoppers service at 1-800-222-8477.
