A Royal Newfoundland Constabulary officer shot an injured coyote in a wooded area of Mount Pearl late Wednesday morning.
An RNC spokesperson said the coyote was found near the Irving service station in Donovan's Industrial Park.
The spokesperson said one of the animal's front legs was broken, although it is not known what caused the injury.
The police officer reportedly used a shotgun.
Officers with the provincial department of Wildlife and Conservation later removed the carcass from the area.
Coyote sightings are still considered rare in the province, but have increased in recent years.
