A Corner Brook man is facing weapons and assault charges after a woman was threatened on the city's west side.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary said the man, 56, used a gun to threaten the woman at a house on Stratton's Road, Sunday night.

The woman and her son, 28, were able to get out of the house before officers arrived around 11:00 p.m.

The man, who had been drinking, turned himself over to police a short time later. 

The accused was arrested and charged with assault with a weapon, careless use and storage of a firearm, and pointing a firearm. 

Police said the two are known to one another.

He is scheduled to appear in provincial court in Corner Brook on Monday.
