Copper thieves caught after Placentia pole chopped down
Two men from the Freshwater area of Placentia face mischief and theft charges after a copper robbery was stopped in its tracks atop a utility pole.
RCMP were alerted on Sunday that a pole in the area had been chopped down.
"When the first officer arrived on scene he could hear noises further down the power line," the RCMP said in a statement.
"The officer walked toward the noise and discovered one person at the top of a power pole chopping at the wires while another person was standing below with wires in his hands."
Police arrested two men, 34 and 36.
The younger man has also been charged with possession of marijuana.
