A Bay Bulls man who tried to escape the clutches of the police wound up rolled over and in a ditch, but came out of the incident without injuries.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary said officers tried to stop a speeding car Monday on Robert E. Howlett Memorial Drive in the Goulds area of St. John's.

While the driver initially stopped the car and got out, he hopped back in and sped away from the scene.

The RNC said the man lost control of the vehicle, which left the highway and rolled over.

"There were no injuries as a result of this incident," the RNC said in a statement Tuesday.

The suspect, 45, was taken into custody on charges that included dangerous driving, obstruction and evading police.
